WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Russell Stover-brand "Private Reserve Assorted Chocolates" because of a labeling error.

Russell Stover Candies Inc. of Kansas City, Mo., said it was recalling lot No. N0349 of its 2 7/8-ounce size of the chocolates because the candy might contain undeclared hazelnuts, posing a health risk for people allergic to nuts.

The recalled product was distributed in Texas, California, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee, as well as in Southaven, Miss.; Billings, Mont.; Sparks, Nev.; and Madison Heights, Mich. The company said 217 boxes of the candy were involved in the recall.

Russell Stover Private Reserve Assorted Chocolates are sold in a box with a red lid and gold border, with a gold cord tied in a bow securing the box. A label on the bottom right corner of the box identifies it as "Assorted Chocolates, Net Weight 2 7/8 oz." The side of the box is marked "01JUL09 N0349." The box contains six pieces of candy, but only one is covered in white chocolate, which is the piece that contains the hazelnuts.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 866-410-9490.
