Deep 6.2 quake rocks Bolivia

LA PAZ, Bolivia, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Seismologists in the United States said an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck central Bolivia Sunday.

There was no immediate report of any damage from the shaker, which was picked up by the U.S. Geological Survey at shortly before 5 p.m. Bolivian time.

The epicenter of the quake was 60 miles southeast of Potosi and 320 miles southeast of La Paz and was more than 200 miles beneath the Earth's surface.

Events known as deep-focus earthquakes are not uncommon in South America. While they are generally not felt, they can produce energy that travels great distances.
