Yulanpian-brand bamboo shoots recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Yulanpian-brand bamboo shoots because of the presence of undeclared sulfites.

The FDA said the importer of the China-grown bamboo shoots, Lion Pavilion Ltd. Of Brooklyn, N.Y., said the dried slices of tender bamboo shoots were sold nationwide in a 230-gram, clear plastic package with the product code 2008.1.3.

The company initiated the recall after a New York State analysis indicated the presence of undeclared sulfites, posing a health risk to people sensitive to such an ingredient.

Consumers can return the bamboo shots for a refund or contact the company at 718-384-6951 for information.
