WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of 812 Fresh from the Deli-brand American Sub sandwiches because of possible contamination.
The FDA said Landshire Inc. of Belleville, Ill., initiated the recall because the sandwiches might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause fatal infections.
The recalled sandwiches were sold at Circle K Convenience Stores in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The sandwiches are individually wrapped on a black tray with UPC 9748800540 and lot number 21882. The lot number is printed in black ink on the side of the package.
Consumers can return the recalled sandwiches for a refund or contact the company at 800-468-3354 for information.
