Pill may change taste in men

LIVERPOOL, England, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A British study suggests the Pill can change a woman's taste in men, making her more likely to choose the wrong partner.

A team at the University of Liverpool found the contraceptive prescription can skew a woman's hormones and make them less attracted to the scent of men who would be good genetic partners.

"The Pill is thought to disrupt an instinctive mechanism that brings together people with complementary genes and immune systems," the university said Tuesday in a release. " Such a couple, by passing on a wide-ranging set of immune system genes, increase their chances of having a healthy child that is not vulnerable to infection."

The researchers said the Pill could also contribute to failed relationships if women no longer find their boyfriend or husband as attractive once they start or stop taking the Pill.

The findings are published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society.
