Giant, Stop & Shop garlic bread recalled

WASHINGTON, June 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Giant- and Stop & Shop-brand garlic bread and garlic spread products due to a labeling error.

The FDA said Giant Food LLC of Landover, Md., and the Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. of Boston initiated the recall after discovering the items contained milk products that aren't declared in the products' ingredient listings.

Officials said the recalled products pose a risk to people with allergies or sensitivity to dairy foods.

Giant Foods said the recall involved all 16-ounce packages of garlic bread that carries UPC 21476670000 and garlic spread with UPC 2017331000.

Stop & Shop said its recall involved both 16-ounce package of garlic bread (UPC 20540880000) and garlic spread (UPI 20549280000), as well as 9-ounce packages of garlic bread (UPC 20540900000).

Customers with the recalled items may return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Giant customers with questions can call the company at 888-469-4426, while Stop & Shop customers can obtain information from the company at 800-767-7772.
