Casual sex rates low for many women

LONDON, June 25 (UPI) -- A British professor says her research disputes the theory that the sexual revolution and feminist movement have freed women to enjoy casual sex.

Anne Campbell of Durham University said nearly half of women surveyed had negative feelings after fleeting sexual encounters. The findings are published in the journal Human Nature.

Campbell interviewed 1,743 men and women who had experienced a one-night stand. The report said 80 percent of men had overall positive feelings about the experience compared to 54 percent of women. Men also reported greater sexual satisfaction and contentment after the one-night stand, as well as a greater sense of well-being and confidence, the publisher, Springer Science, said in a news release.

Women were more likely to say they felt "used" by the one-night stand and were more likely to worry about the potential damage to their reputation.
