Some cantaloupes recalled in Canada

OTTAWA, June 3 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the voluntary recall of KingFisher-brand cantaloupes due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The recalled U.S.-produced melons were distributed in cartons containing six or nine cantaloupes. The individual cantaloupes may have a sticker bearing UPC 0 33383 11600 6. The CFIA said they were sold across Ontario from May 16 to and including June 2.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear or smell spoiled, but consumption might cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness that can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.

The importer, Gambles Ontario Produce Inc. of Toronto, is voluntarily recalling the cantaloupes from the marketplace.
