DARWIN, Australia, May 31 (UPI) -- Australian doctors said a baby's safe delivery is a "miracle" after the infant developed for nearly nine months in her mother's ovary instead of her womb.

Durga Thangarajah beat one-in-a-million odds of surviving when she was born healthy Thursday at Darwin Private Hospital in Australia's Northern Territory, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Doctors said the baby girl spread her mother's ovary so thin, her hair could be seen through the tissue.

"It's an extraordinarily unusual outcome and I am not aware of anyone who has seen a (full) term ovarian pregnancy as we have here," obstetrician Andrew Miller said. "It truly is a miracle she got a living baby out of it -- she's extraordinarily lucky."

Experts said they didn't know the baby was growing in her mother, Meera Thangarajah's, 34, ovary until they performed the cesarean operation.
