WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Charlie's-brand cut cantaloupe products due to possible contamination.

Charlie's Produce of Spokane, Wash., initiated the recall after the FDA issued an alert regarding cantaloupe supplied by Agropecuaria Montelibano, a Honduran grower and packer. FDA officials said fruit from that company appears to be associated with a Salmonella outbreak in the United States and Canada.

The recalled Charlie's-brand cantaloupe, mixed fruit, and honeydew-cantaloupe products were distributed to retail stores, delicatessens and foodservice operators in Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Montana. The products are branded with the Charlie's Produce name and logo and are sold in a hard plastic clamshell, with "Use By" dates of March 7-29 stamped on the bottom of the container.

Consumers can return the products for a full refund or can contact the company at 206-625-1412.
