Alaska sues Eli Lilly over Zyprexa

March 12, 2008 at 12:52 AM   |   Comments

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 12 (UPI) -- A former U.S. drug regulator testified at a trial in Alaska Monday that Eli Lilly tried to minimize the negative aspects of the drug Zyprexa.

Alaska is suing Lilly for allegedly failing to warn patients of health problems linked to Zyprexa, including diabetes, high blood sugar and weight gain, the Anchorage Daily News said. The lawsuit claims Lilly hid the problems for financial reasons.

John Gueriguian, a former U.S. Food and Drug Administration official, said Lilly failed to put enough information on the drug's label warning until last year.
