Invasive lionfish a menace in Florida Keys
Tuesday, February 9
MANDURAH, Australia, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Marine researchers say they have discovered two new shark species in the waters off Western Australia.
Department of Fisheries shark researcher Justin Chidlow said the new species are wobbegongs, which also are called carpet sharks, The Australian reported. The discoveries of the floral banded wobbegong and dwarf spotted wobbegong mean there are now eight known types of wobbegong sharks.
"It's amazing to think that the new species have been present off our coast, but that it's only now that they have been formally identified as separate and been added to the list of known wobbegong species," Chidlow told The Australian.
