HOUSTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The International Space Station crew was busy Tuesday and Wednesday with the internal outfitting of the new Harmony node, the U.S. space agency said.
The ISS Expedition 16 crew members were also engaged in routine spacecraft maintenance, National Aeronautics and Space Administration controllers in Houston said.
Astronauts Peggy Whitson and Dan Tani performed "plumbing" work Tuesday on the space connecting the Destiny Lab and the Harmony node by installing nitrogen transfer jumpers. Whitson worked on the Harmony node vestibule Wednesday, preparing it for depressurization and leak checking.
Cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko worked several hours on the station's fire warning system, removing and replacing all expired smoke detectors. In addition, NASA controllers said the ISS crew conducted several experiments and gathered some of the tools that will be used during the STS-122 spacewalks next month.
