FDA announces nationwide spinach recall

Aug. 30, 2007 at 6:28 AM   |   Comments

WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the nationwide recall of Metz Fresh bagged spinach due to possible bacterial contamination.

Metz Fresh LLC of King City, Calif., initiated the voluntary recall after routine lab testing identified salmonella bacteria in a sample from one of three production lines. However, as a precaution, the company recalled all spinach packed the same day on all three lines.

The spinach was distributed under the Metz Fresh label in both retail and food service packages, including 10- and 16-ounce bags as well as 4-pound cartons.

The recalled spinach bears the tracking codes 12208114, 12208214 and 12208314 and was distributed across the continental United States and Canada.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 831-386-1018.
