CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., July 26 (UPI) -- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration set Aug. 7 as the official target date for the launch of space shuttle Endeavor and its STS-118 crew.

NASA managers concluded a two-day flight readiness review Thursday at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida by scheduling the liftoff date.

"On behalf of all the people that work on Endeavour, both here and really across the country, it's a great, great feeling to have Endeavour back on the pad," said Shuttle Launch Director Mike Leinbach. "We're looking forward to a great launch."

Flight readiness reviews are conducted two weeks prior to each space shuttle mission and involve an evaluation of all activities and elements necessary for safe shuttle mission operations, including the readiness of the vehicle, flight crew and payloads.

STS-118 is to be the first flight for Endeavour since 2002.
