SAN FRANCISCO, June 17 (UPI) -- A new study suggests women who get along well with their fathers are attracted to men who look like their dads, it was reported Sunday.

Psychologists in Britain and Poland asked 49 women to look at photos of men and choose the ones they found most attractive, said the study published last week in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior.

The women were asked whether they got along with their fathers. The women who said they liked their dads tended to pick men from the photos with facial characteristics similar to their dads'. The women who weren't close to their fathers showed no preference, reported the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It's this idea of imprinting, like a baby duck that comes out of a shell and sees a dog and thinks, 'That's my mother,' " said Dr. Don Mordecai, chief of psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente's Santa Teresa Medical Center in San Jose, Calif.
