WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- The International Space University's 2009 summer program will be held at NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif.

It's the first time the program has been held at a National Aeronautics and Space Administration center.

"Our Ames Research Center location will provide the International Space University's diverse student body a rich interdisciplinary curriculum along with the mentorship of NASA's scientists, engineers, and researchers, as well as our academic and industry partners," said NASA Assistant Administrator of Education Joyce Winterton.

The International Space University was established in 1987 as an institution for the study, exploration and development of space for the benefit of all humanity. The summer session program is an intense nine-week course for postgraduate students and young professionals.

Approximately 120 students from around the world will participate in the summer session that includes a curriculum ranging from engineering, physical sciences and satellite applications to life sciences, policy, management and humanities.

"We have no doubt that the students who attend Summer Session Program 2009 will be accelerated on their way to becoming leaders in the space sector," said Dr. Michael Simpson, president of the International Space University.

The 2009 summer session will run from mid-June to August.
