Bronze Age fertility site found in Italy

ROME, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Italian archaeologists say recent finds in Puglia show the importance of fertility rites in the Bronze Age.

ANSA said the new dig has uncovered a huge well used for sacrifices to an unknown fertility goddess.

Archeologists say the discovery will help "decode the ritual" of the ancient religion.

The site is shaped like an icon of fertility, site chief Anna Maria Punzi Sisto told reporters.
