BARCELONA, Spain, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 67-year-old woman has become the world's oldest mother after giving birth to twins in a Barcelona, Spain, hospital, a report says.

The woman, whose name was not revealed by officials at Sant Pau hospital, underwent a Caesarean section Saturday, the BBC reported Sunday.

A hospital spokesman said the babies have been placed in an incubator and the mother, who had undergone fertility treatments in Latin America, was expected to spend a few days at the hospital recovering. He said all three patients were doing well.

The mother, who is one year older than a Romanian woman who gave birth to a baby girl in January 2005, does not have any previous children.
