KOUROU, French Guiana, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- The European Space Agency says the Western European Union and European Interparliamentary Space Conference will have a joint meeting this week.
The conference on space, defense and European security is set for Tuesday through Friday at Kourou, French Guiana.
Numerous members of the national parliaments of European countries, as well as representatives of the European Parliament and the EU Military Staff and Satellite Center, are expected to attend.
The conference will address the various aspects of a European space policy with regard to security and defense, with a particular focus on the technological and industrial capacities needed to achieve such a policy, the ESA said.
"We are taking a further step toward the definition a European Space Policy with a view to next year's concrete developments", said ESA Director General Jean Jacques Dordain.
Participants are to be briefed on the Ariane 5 and Vega launch installations and visit the new Soyuz site.
