LONDON, July 24 (UPI) -- Lucent Technologies and Manx Telecom will work together to develop an Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem on the Isle of Man.
A subsidiary of O2, Manx Telecom will use Lucent's IMS network to support its multimedia services including Voice over Internet Protocol and data services.
As part of this project Lucent will replace Manx Telecom's existing broadband and global system for mobile communications core network infrastructures whilst augmenting its third-generation network. Lucent also will supply Manx Telecom with Lucent Ethernet routers to support the high reliability and scalability necessary.
"This is an all-encompassing end-to-end solution, with the IMS architecture at its core, that will continue to support existing voice services while enabling the introduction of innovative new multimedia services," said Andy Williams, president of Lucent Technologies Europe.
