LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" crushed online movie sales, Fandango reported Sunday night.
The sequel had the biggest three-day opening weekend tickets sale, with ticket sales opening weekend twice that of any other film's opening weekend ticket sales this year, and enjoyed best ticket-selling day and day-before-opening, Fandango said.
It also broke hourly sale records, selling an average of nearly 10 tickets per second, and represented over 90 percent of the company's weekly ticket sales.
"These new sales records prove the demand for and value of online ticketing," said Fandango Chairman Chuck Davis. "As of Sunday morning, ticket sales for Pirates are still going strong. Clearly, audiences are looking for a good old-fashioned popcorn movie, and Pirates delivers the thrills."
