India to launch TV satellite in mid-July

NEW DELHI, June 30 (UPI) -- India will launch a new communications satellite in mid-July.

The 2.5-ton INSAT 4C will lift off sometime in a July 10-15 window aboard a GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) and provide television broadcasts and other communications over a 10-year lifespan.

The satellite is equipped with a dozen Ku-band transponders.

The launch will be the first INSAT launched by the Indian-made GSLV rocket from Indian soil, a move expected to produce substantial cost savings for the space program.
