TORONTO, June 15 (UPI) -- Canadian telecom regulators are already moving forward with changes recommended in an earlier report on the industry.
Charles Dalfen, chairman of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, said in a speech Wednesday that some of the proposed changes were already being made.
Dalfen's remarks came a day after Industry Minister Maxime Bernier presented Parliament with a recommendation endorsing the report that called for a greater reliance on market forces in the telecom sector.
The Toronto Globe and Mail said the idea was well received by the larger telcos attending this week's Canadian Telecom Summit, although some cable companies are cautious about removing regulations that are helping them break into the telecom business.
