LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- Britain's PlusNet is offering a low-cost residential broadband service.

The 8 megabits-per-second service will cost a mere 9.99 pounds ($18.66) per month and requires only a one-month commitment.

The price is competitive with other low-cost offers; however, PlusNet said Wednesday its system would accommodate Voice over Internet Protocol and other broadband services its rivals do not.

"This product allows customers to have access to a high quality broadband experience, which is an important factor given the reality of other low priced or even free broadband products," said PlusNet Marketing Director Neil Armstrong.
