Vodafone names new deputy chairman

LONDON, May 23 (UPI) -- Vodafone Tuesday appointed a new deputy chairman, as two members of the British carrier's board announced their retirement.

The company said John Buchanan will become deputy chairman of the board of directors as well as its senior independent director, having been a board member since April 2003. He will replace Paul Hazen, who will retire from the board, as will Penny Hughes.

The appointment will be effective from July 25, after the mobile group's annual general meeting. John Bond will continue as the company's chairman, while Arun Sarin remains as its chief executive.
