Cheaper wireless broadband comes to Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 2 (UPI) -- Africa Online has introduced iBurst wireless broadband technology as a lower-cost option for the Kenya market.

iBurst offers speeds up to 1 megabit per second and costs consumers much less than current wireless broadband options, the East Africa Standard said Tuesday.

"The market is looking for dual and triple play and this Africa Online is providing through iBurst," Africa Online General Manager Fredrick Murunga told the newspaper.

The majority of Kenya's Web surfers remain on dialup CDMA (code division multiple access) connections that require users to remain in their offices or homes and also limits the applications they can use.

While wireless broadband is available, the Standard said the cost is prohibitive for most Kenyans.
