Poland's Polkomtel boosts broadband

WARSAW, Poland, March 31 (UPI) -- Polish mobile-phone operator Polkomtel will be delivering broadband Internet access to its Plus GSM network.

SES ASTRA will combine its satellite-based broadband service with Polkomtel's existing wireless internet service iPlus, with the result being a new gateway to high-speed digital television and radio.

"Our agreement with SES ASTRA will allow us to offer subscribers download data at extremely high download speeds virtually anywhere in Poland," said Polkomtel Vice President Miroslaw Bielicki. "In the near future, subscribers will be able to access a new world of multimedia contents, interactive satellite television and Video-on-Demand."

The service will require the installation of a satellite dish on the user's home and a modem for his or her personal computer.
