TEL AVIV, Israel, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- South Korea's SK Group conglomerate will again use Israeli firm ECI Telecom's network equipment to aid a national expansion, the two companies announced.

The deal is worth $20 million over the next five years and will include equipment and support "to provide affordable, high-speed 3G services and e-government applications in South Korea," the Israeli business newspaper Globes reported.

SK Group will use ECI Telecom's XDM multi-service positioning platform in expanding its nationwide Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing backbone network, the newspaper said.

The XDM platform is part of ECI's optical networking package, an ECI representative said.

ECI Telecom, founded in 1961, has three divisions: optical networking, broadband access and data networking, and employs 3,000 people worldwide, the firm said in its company profile.

SK Group is made up of 40 member companies, and its 25,000 worldwide employees maintain branches on six continents. The corporation is a major player in a range of industries including finance, logistics, telecommunications, energy and chemicals, the newspaper said.
