ECI platform to be used in Korea fiber net

SEOUL, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- SK Group will use a multi-servicing platform from ECI Telecom in the expansion of its South Korea DWDM fiber-optic backbone network.

The expansion of the long-haul backbone will enable SK to offer third-generation broadband and e-government services. With 33 nodes, the new network will cover all of South Korea.

The five-year, $20 million contract announced by ECI Tuesday specifies the company's XDM Multi-Service Provisioning Platform, a converged architecture that will allow digital and multimedia services along with DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) capability.

ECI said the contract was the latest in a long history between the two companies.
