Siemens to supply Indonesia wireless net

JAKARTA, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Hutchinson Telecom has selected Siemens to supply a turnkey wireless network for its Indonesia subsidiary.

The project's first phase will be the deployment of around 2,000 cell sites during the first half of 2006 with the ultimate goal of a nationwide infrastructure for a GSM 1800 wireless network with additional third-generation Universal Mobile Telecom System infrastructure in key urban areas.

"Indonesia is one of our key strategic growth markets," said Dennis Liu, CEO of Hong Kong-based Hutchinson. "It is our priority to build a high quality wireless network with scalability from the beginning."

Siemens' involvement also includes financing, network administration and maintenance over the first three years of the project.
