Harris sole equipment source on Kosovo net

MELBOURNE, Fla., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Harris Corporation will be the sole provider of equipment and services for a consortium building a new mobile-phone network in Kosovo.

Florida-based Harris announced late Monday it had received a letter of commitment for the job from the Mobikos-Mobitel Consortium, which is building the second GSM (group special mobile) network in the small Balkan nation.

The consortium expects to spend about $150 million on the project. Mobikos is Slovenia's national telecom operator, while Mobitel is based in Kosovo.

Harris will specifically provide microwave equipment and services, program management and systems integration services.
