Nokia, 3G offer walkie talkie-type service

ESPOO, Finland, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Nokia said Monday it will be working with 3 Scandinavia to develop third-generation walkie-talkie type phone networks.

Together with 3 Scandinavia, the Finnish mobile giant will be launching its PoC service in Sweden on a trial basis, which will allow people to use cellular phones like walkie-talkies. The initial plan is to target business users, but Nokia said the plan should be useful for personal use as well.

"Push to talk is a fascinating new service for business users in particular," said Jorgen Askerroth, chief technology officer at 3 Scandinavia in a news release. 3 Scandinavia was the first company to offer third-generation phone services in Sweden and Denmark in 2003.
