GERMANTOWN, Md., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich has declared Sept. 19-23 "Broadband for Everyone Week."
In celebration, Maryland-based Hughes Network Systems, a large provider of satellite broadband services, said it is committing resources to both youth and small businesses to advance national access.
Gov. Ehrlich's "Broadband for Everyone Week" proclamation stated, "Broadband access is important to our nation's children because it holds promise for facilitating the delivery of services that can assist in everyday life. Maryland recognizes the vital role broadband access plays in preparing our future generations."
Ehrlich will join Pradman Kaul, chairman and CEO of HNS, on Friday, Sept. 23 when the company donates $5,000 to KIPP Harbor Academy in Annapolis. The contribution demonstrates HNS' commitment to "bridging the broadband digital divide" for underserved communities throughout the United States.
