GoDaddy accredited to sell .EU domain name

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- GoDaddy.com announced Thursday that it has been accredited to sell the new .EU top-level domain.

GoDaddy, a registrar of domain names worldwide, was accredited to sell the new domain by EURid, a Belgium-based not-for-profit organization that is the registry for the .EU domain.

Go Daddy will begin accepting .EU domain registrations on or about Aug. 25 and then immediately submit them to the EURid registry when it officially opens its "sunrise" period in early October. During a sunrise period only public bodies, trademark holders and others possessing prior rights to a name may register .EU domains. Immediately after the sunrise period closes, registration will open on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone who satisfies the qualifying criteria and is in compliance with the terms and conditions of registration.

"As the world's number one domain registrar both in terms of new domain registrations and domains under management, GoDaddy.com is proud to add the new .EU domain to our domain offerings," said Bob Parsons, president and founder. "Our international customers represent a vital and ever-growing percentage of our total customer base, and we are always striving to expand our international market."
