Sharp introduces two-way displays

OSAKA, Japan, July 18 (UPI) -- Sharp has developed an LCD display that allows two users to see different information simultaneously on the same screen, depending on the viewing angle.

The new displays, developed by Sharp Corporation and Sharp Laboratories Europe, send different images to the left and the right by directionally controlling the viewing angle with a parallax barrier superimposed onto an ordinary TFT LCD.

The new application would allow two people in a car to view separate images on the same machine; the driver could examine a roadmap, for example, while a passenger watches a DVD.
