Versatel files complaint on fake release

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, July 15 (UPI) -- Dutch phone group Versatel Telecom filed a complaint late Thursday about a forged news release about the company's relation with Deutsche Telekom.

The fake statement said Versatel was in talks with German rival Deutsche Telekom about a possible takeover.

That statement was picked up by Dutch newswires, which reported the two companies were discussing a number of ways to forge an alliance, including a public bid.

Versatel said it had filed a complaint with prosecutors in The Hague, but the company declined to give further details.
