AOL debuts new video search service

DULLES, Va., July 5 (UPI) -- America Online announced Tuesday the debut of an enhanced video search service.

According to a statement from AOL Inc., the new online video search capability "will make it easy to find, explore and experience videos on the Web." Building on its existing video search service, AOL's new video search product will be available through AOLSearch.com and on AOL.com, including the new AOL Web portal available in beta.

The company said the new service will deliver "the most comprehensive repository of high-quality video content online in key categories from entertainment to news." Its database draws from the AOL video on-demand archive of more than 15,000 licensed and originally produced video assets, including from broadcast television; more than 1.5 million video assets available on the Internet indexed through Singingfish, the Web's premier video and audio search engine; and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds from top video-streaming sites.

According to the company, this combined approach will let consumers search from one central location for high-quality, current online video spanning popular music videos, movie features, television clips, news coverage, sports highlights and independently produced videos.

"On-demand video is rapidly emerging as a mainstream behavior on the Web, and we want AOL to be the first place users go for online video," said Kevin Conroy, executive vice president and COO of AOL Media Networks. "We're combining best-in-class video search technology with extensive video programming to offer consumers the best video experience anywhere on the Web."
