LONDON, June 13 (UPI) -- A record-breaking 2,060,285 text messages were sent in a bid get tickets for July's Live 8 concert in London, the Guinness Book of Records said Monday.

While tickets to the July 2 concert are free, fans had to text message their details in order to qualify for the ticket lottery. As a result, the bid for tickets set a record for the largest text-message lottery in the world.

"The Live 8 text lottery has had an unprecedented response and we're thrilled to be awarding them with a Guinness World Record -- especially as it's all in the name of charity," said Craig Glenday, editor of Guinness World Records.

Winners of the lottery will be notified by June 16 -- by a text message from the organizers.
