WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) -- Former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson told health policy leaders in Washington the United States must provide more health aid.

Thompson, who left the Bush administration last year, said he had met many desperately poor and sick people in need of medical technology to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

"We have such a wealth of talent and such a great medical system in this country, in the United states, and there are so many people hurting around the world," Thompson told a forum sponsored by the Washington-based Kaiser Family Foundation.

The former Wisconsin governor expressed disappointment Medicaid was not reformed during his tenure as health secretary.

Thompson is now a consultant on healthcare for accountants, government agencies and lawyers.
