PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A possible meteorite reportedly fell into a rice paddy in a remote area of northern Cambodia, causing a fire in the fields.

Xinhua, the official Chinese government news agency, reported the rock weighed 4.5 kilograms (about 10 pounds).

Villagers from the area in Banteay Meanchey searched the fields after they heard a loud noise early Monday. The stone was handed over to local police for expert examination.

The province is on Cambodia's northwest border, about 300 miles from the capital of Phnom Penh.
