LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- A Santa Monica, Calif., law firm is suing Johnson and Johnson, saying its over-the-counter pain relief medication for kids can induce an allergic reaction.

Such a reaction also can lead to blindness, the suit alleged.

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by Greene, Broillet, Panish & Wheeler, reports the Santa Monica Lookout News.

The suit claimed the drug maker and its subsidiaries ignored Food and Drug Administration tests done in the 1980's, suggesting Children's Motrin was a danger to consumers.

The suit, filed on behalf of seven-year-old girl Sabrina Brierton Johnson and her family, said the girl was struck blind after suffering an allergic reaction -- known as the Steven's Johnson Syndrome - that was allegedly induced after taking the fever-reducing drug.

A company representative said the firm is "investigating the situation."
