BALTIMORE, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Maryland police dispatchers have been flooded with calls following a meteor shower, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

"It looked like a ball of fire falling out of the sky," Cpl. Cynthia Brown, a Maryland State Police dispatcher, quoted a caller as saying Saturday night.

The callers were witnessing the Geminid meteor shower, the Post said.

The shower was expected to reach its peak Monday night and Tuesday morning. However, the manifestation has been visible in some locations for the past week.
