Beloved British flowers endangered

LONDON, June 27 (UPI) -- Some of Britain's most beloved summer wildflowers are also the most endangered, botanical charity Plantlife International said Sunday.

Researchers said arable plants, a group that includes poppies and buttercups, have shown the greatest decline of any type of British flora, the BBC reported.

The group was urging farmers to count the arable plants on their land to create an accurate national survey.

Scientists were worried that many of these plants, once thought to be weeds, have declined nearly to extinction.
