Implant could monitor transplant status

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A combination optical sensor/transmitter, inserted into a transplanted organ during surgery, could provide doctors with real-time information on the organ's post-operation blood flow, researchers said Wednesday. Physicians would have to be careful, however, in interpreting data that might not represent the entire organ, a transplant specialist said.
