NASA studies lasers to divert asteroids

HOUSTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- NASA scientists are studying lasers as a way to divert dangerous asteroids and comets. The lasers would heat the surface of the threatening space junk, creating a series of small explosions on the surface which would push the asteroid or comet off its collision course.
