Drug cuts glaucoma 'gap' between races

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The glaucoma treatment bimatoprost appears to close what health professionals have called a troubling effectiveness gap between African-Americans and others in the treatment of the disease, according to new research. Glaucoma, which is caused by increases of pressure within the eye, affects African-Americans 6-to-8 times more often than others and causes blindness 14 to 17 times more often in African-Americans.
