Scientists find molecular path to fear

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Researchers reported Tuesday they have discovered a unique molecule pathway in the brain involved for helping a person cope with fear, a finding that could open doors to treating anxiety and other psychiatric disorders. In studies with mice, the researchers found when the pathway was deactivated, it had no effect on the animals' abilities to become afraid and express fear, but it effectively prevented the mice from overcoming fear.
