Gene therapy benefit said to outweigh risk

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The benefits of gene therapy far outweigh the risks and the procedures hold great promise for treating incurable diseases, experts told United Press International. Meanwhile the Food and Drug Administration held an emergency meeting Thursday to examine gene therapy safety issues and a person in a French study reportedly developed cancer from the treatment.
