Calcium-rich foods hurt antibiotics

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Patients on potent antibiotics who take pills with a typical cereal and juice breakfast could be sabotaging their health, researchers suggested Monday. In presentations at an American Society for Microbiology meeting, scientists said calcium-fortified products -- such as orange juice -- bind to antibiotics in the gut and prevent the drugs from combating infections.
